I wanted to share an extra special piece of news with you all today, that we are expecting a new addition to our family very soon! I am pregnant with our first baby! We are all so very excited and cannot wait to welcome our little girl into the world:) I am now 5 months along in the pregnancy and loving this amazing journey, the growing bump, the tiny movements and all of the adventures that still await us!

There has been much reflection and change over the past months and now - with our little store closed, I am feeling relaxed and at peace and hope to have the time for both my family life and creative work life to look forward to. Wish me luck!!

I was SO excited when I stumbled upon these hand carved wooden stamps in Kingscliffe! Unfortunately I cannot remember the name of the store but it was beautiful and they had 3 big bowls containing different sized stamps to drool and ponder over... They even had bigger sized yardage style stamps that would be great for stamping material and making special treats - perhaps for xmas pressies?? I plan to use my small collection to make xmas wrap and tags.

I just wanted to say a BIG thanks to all you amazing people for visiting, emailing, facebook-ing and tweeting such lovely messages of support on the shop front closure! You are the sweetest.

It has been just over one week since the big move and my time has been spent with good things mostly. A bit of rest and relaxation, a trip to the beach, catching up with family, baking bad things to eat, working on projects that I enjoy, along with a few boring things such as being bed bound due to icky illness and procrastinating over setting up/moving the contents of my shop OUT of our sunroom! All in good time....

Overall, it has been a very happy week and I think I made the right decision. I like it here, and I can't wait to get back into the swing of things!

Hello lovely blog friends and LJS customers,

Today we have some rather big news to share with you all... Little Jane St have decided to close the doors to our retail space in Winn Lane, Brisbane. It is a little bit sad to be leaving but mostly a happy time as we take the next step to grow our little business.

We have all heard about the effects of the 'recession' within the retail world, and let me tell you for someone with limited experience in retail other than the fact I once worked as a check out chick in coles, it has been tough! As a result I have found myself quite honestly completely out of my depth!! In turn I was faced with a difficult decision of priorities. I soon took on working in the shop 6 days a week at the cost of my creative self, family, friends, sanity and ultimately the side of the business I was most passionate and personally fulfilled within soon suffered. So you see, in the end for me my shop was not something I was passionate enough to keep going at the cost of my creative journey, nor at the cost to my collection or wholesale business. It was soon clear that I had mixed up my priorities.

In saying all of that, although I did eventually realise I was on a separate path to my heart, this was in fact a VERY hard decision for me to make because I just adore my little shop, and more importantly the community that exists within Winn Lane, Fortitude Valley. We started as the first little shop in this laneway beside the popular Flamingo Cafe and have eagerly watched this space morph into something really special! With all the building complete you will now find 5 amazing retail shops including vintage fashion and handmade jewellery, a hairdresser, cafe and art gallery. Local Brisbane people out there who complain that our city is boring compared to other states... you're simply not looking hard enough! Now is a crucial time for these small businesses and they need our support! Where possible please support local business and local artists because it is this diversity that makes us who we are, we shouldn't be trying to emulate what people in Melbourne have but rather supporting the little guys out there who dare to take the risk and in turn ensuring the growth of a great, culturally diverse city. It has been a privilege to work within and contribute to one of the many upcoming creative precincts within Brisbane.

You may or may not have noticed it has been very quiet on the Little Jane St front of late and now you know why! However as of this Friday (which is our last day in the shop) things will hopefully change, and let me tell you there are some BIG changes on the horizon for me which I will tell you all about a little later! First up I will start creating again, lots of dreaming and designing. I will make big messes, have less stress, more time for friends and family, have my weekends back and enjoy what comes next! No pressure.

Thank you to everyone who has been a part of Little Jane St, popped in for a visit, supported our shop, purchased cute things - we have made so many new friends and I can't wait to see where this adventure leads us! Remember we are only closing our shop space so you can still find our range of Little Jane St goodies online and from our fantastic stockists throughout Australia.

New in the shop... are these amazing GIANT polaroid prints by very talented local photographer Hailey Bartholemew! I just adore this lady and her work, and I am finding it very difficult to refrain myself from taking 3 out of the 4 images home with me:) These polaroids are a special limited edition run of Hailey's very popular 365 grateful project. Hailey took a polaroid a day for 1 whole year of moments in life that she was grateful for.

At our place, we recently made a decision to have a no TV zone. It has been a few months and I must say we have barely even noticed a void. It is a lovely feeling to fill the spare time with baking, reading, music, walks, chatter or whatever else we feel fit!! Last night I thought it would be a nice idea to pop onto eBay and take a peek at what was on offering in the board game department. Wouldn't it be great to fill a cupboard with a collection of retro board games and puzzles, as an alternative for the time once spent in front of the box. I was so excited by all the options I found, some familiar games and others I had never heard of. Scrolling through the pages brought back many childhood memories, as we made our choices for our new games cupboard.

Well winter is well and truly here, so of course I was most excited to nab what I now consider possibly my BEST op shop purchase ever. The sweetest little green crochet leprechaun slippers, for $2!! I think these might just find a spot in the shop for chilly winter afternoons.

Happy Easter dear friends!!
Have you had a wonderful break? Full of much relaxation, chocolate eating and lounging/digestion time from said chocolate eating?

We have had a bunch of fun over the past few days, escaping from the shop for a wee bit to stuff our faces full of naughty food groups, bake cakes, play Easter egg hunts, picnic in the sunshine, laze by the pool and visit family! It is amazing that we crammed all that in really!

I am back to work in my little shop today - do pop in for a visit if you are searching for things to do on the last day of holidays:)

I am so very excited about these little granny squares that are being stitched up by the lovely Thea, my talented new found facebook friend who is awesome on the crochet needle I must say! Thea agreed to help me make up these sweets to adorn an outside portion of the shop, MORE colour, exactly what we want:) I will be sure to let you know how it turns out!

So today I thought it would be fun to tell you a little more about the Little Jane St shop and more importantly a little more about Winn Lane, our new neighbourhood and the place where Little Jane St now calls home.

There has been a lot of work going on in the laneway for some time now, and it is very exciting to see it all coming together in the final stages! When you visit Winn Lane, you will find old favourites such as The Outpost, Flamingo Cafe, Nine Lives, Tym Guitars and The Zoo along with new shops such as our own and Sunday Social, set to open next week!!

Today I am seeing a layer of astro turf going along the outside of my shop in a makeshift, unique sidewalk style! I LOVE it!! The next little while will see new shops, extensions of existing shops, more seating, more plants and lovely signage just to name a few!!

We really are very excited about all the changes going on, be sure to pop down every now and again and check things out. I will be sure to keep you posted with many more pictures over the next couple of weeks.... but for now you can also stay up to date on our very own Winn Lane facebook and twitter page!

I am excited! Ok, so I may be a little bias but I find these two ladies so very inspirational! They are both crazy talented artists, hardworking, motivated and savvy business owners who I am in constant awe of. The bit I am excited about.... is that they have both collaborated together on the above project to be showcased at Myrtle St Studio in early March. I can't wait! Please do pop by for a peek at the amazing KT Doyle's work, and wander around the beautiful gallery space that Jay Dee launched last year. You will even get a chance to admire 'Helga' the Heidelberg letterpress machine that KT's artworks were printed on.

hello and a little peek into our new world...

Hello Lovely friends,

How have you all been? It has been such a long time between blog posts I know! 2011 has kicked off with a bang that is for sure, some fantastic times and also equally dark times - but hey, that's life right?

I wanted to stop in and show you some pretty pictures of my new world.... our little shop!

We have been open now for about 4 months and it has been a crazy ride adjusting to the new workload (not that things are showing any sign of slowing down!) So much is happening over the next few months and I am very excited to share it all. There will be a new website and a new blog, a new shop girl, a new approach to LJS, new designs, our little laneway is also in the midst of getting the sweetest makeover and some fantastic new shop neighbours, I am illustrating a storybook and also working on some other exciting freelance work.... phew!

In a sense I am looking forward to putting all this craziness behind me, and can't wait to get back into the studio, designing products where I belong:)

summer window display....

Well, summer is here and the sun is finally shining! Here is a little peek at our new shop window display! It has been up for a few weeks now but I have only just had the chance to post some pictures. The little message reads 'Spread The Sunshine ~ toast oneself with an array of papery treats from Little Jane St....' What better way to spread such a message than with gold glitter glue!!

Although not intended, the words now work with a double meaning as we continue to try and spread that little bit of sunshine throughout QLD!

Do pop by sometime this month and visit our gold, sparkly summery store - we are quite proud of our handywork!

Hello all, Wow - what a crazy week it has been here in QLD! The flood water has now been and gone and things will slowly begin to rebuild and recover. It has been such a horrible time for many and we continue to send our love and support to all of those affected.

LJS yard sale!

Hello all, This afternoon we are VERY excited here in the studio! Because this weekend at the Little Jane St shop we are planning to roll out a picnic rug and sell off our collection of pretty cutlery, crockery, glassware, serviettes, floral table cloths and vintage fabrics! After a year long adventure op shopping all these sweets for our wedding, we thought what a nice idea it would be to have a mini sale and part ways with all these treats. Let's face it, although it will all be hard to say goodbye, I really just don't need 100 wine glasses, vintage forks/spoons, plates, mugs and so on:)

In addition to these items there will also be beautiful vintage material, hand made cotton serviettes, milk vases, candle stick holders and pretty table cloths - everything one would need for the sweetest of dinner parties!

To say this year has been busy is a massive understatement.... manic, crazy, all consuming and hectic might be a little more accurate! It has also been awesome! Pure awesome!

Anyhoo, what I am trying to say is that this little blog has been very much suffering from silent neglect over the past month or so which is a shame because I have so much to tell you all about... I am bursting at the seams really!

So I thought I should start with the most important piece of news and work my way back, sharing the fact that last weekend I finally got hitched to my wonderful long time partner Dave! The day was wonderful and everything we had hoped for - relaxing, sun-shiny (thanks for coming to the party weather) fun, filled with lots of love, family and friends!

Above are some initial shots taken by our very talented wedding photographer Jonas Peterson! If you've never heard about Jonas, then I insist you take yourself over to his website for a wee gander - an awesome talent, lovely person and local Brisbane talent!

Last Tuesday evening was the official launch of our very own Little Jane St shop! So much fun!! It was lovely to at long last see all that hard work come to life! Thank you, times a million to the very talented Hailey Bartholomew - who is the creative behind all these amazing shots! It was also great to see so many familiar, and unfamiliar faces pop by for a visit, and to you, the wonderful blogging community a BIG thank you for your kind words and support in the lead up to this event!

Happy Friday lovely blog friends!

This week has been an exciting one here at Little Jane St! Tuesday night saw us launch our very first store:) So much fun was had - sipping wine and eating cupcakes, chatting and catching up!

Here is a sneaky i phone shot I took of the shop this afternoon - we have some photos of the night on the way from our lovely photographer so I won't show you too much more for now!

The shop is now officially opened 7 days a week from 10am to 5pm - so do pop down this weekend for a brekky at flamingo and a peek at the new space! We have new tote bags, journals, pencils, masking tape, highlighter pencils, the latest edition of Peppermint and a sweet little zine on how to knit while catching public transport - to name a few!

Unfortunately I won't be in the store this weekend as I will be heading down to Byron for a wee break with some lovely ladies to celebrate the upcoming wedding! But do pop by and say hello to the lovely Anna and Sacha who will be filling in for me while I am away!

Monday morning, and a shop update!

This morning I braced myself against the cold, windy, rainy weather we are having here in Brissy and took a little visit into the shop.... things were very much all systems go with the builder, painter and electrician busily buzzing about with last minute preps for the shop opening. Power points and pendulum lights were being installed, magnetic spaces and white and yellow walls being painted along with shop frontage, roofs and walls being finalised!

Oh - and a yummy brekky at Flamingo Cafe (I like to help out where I can).

The shop is just weeks away from the big opening now!! So stay tuned for details for our launch party:)

Hello lovely blog friends! I must sound like a broken record but, gosh it has been busy lately:) I have been very slack with blogging - naughty, naughty. For the past little while Chloe and I have been busily preparing our stock levels to accommodate the big move into the shop!

The house and studio is a buzz with paper hearts, ceramics, found pieces of furniture to renovate and NEW PRODUCTS!! I am very excited to be finally finalising a few new bits and bops to add to the store, including new journals and notebooks, tote bags, erasers, wrapping paper and a few more treats that I will keep to share for another day!

It has been such a busy, hectic time here in the studio lately that yesterday I decided to take the afternoon off to sit in the sunshine and attend to a little wedding crafting! Yesterday... with the 'help' of Audrey I cut a bunch of sweet little green gingham squares that will be used as mini serviettes to wrap our hot dogs in - Yum!

Happy Monday lovely blog friends! Hope you had a wonderful weekend:)

Yesterday I pottered along to the very first Valley Laneway Market. It was a wonderful, sun-shiny day spent with lovely friends eating brekky and sipping coffee. It was so great to see these hidden laneway's open up into something magical... The buzz was infectious and I can't wait to visit again.

For those who have not heard, the Apostolos brothers have been hard at work creating all sorts of exciting, creative initiatives for the laneway's. Consisting of three areas: California Lane, Little Winn Lane and Bakery Lane, Saturday saw it all come to life with the inclusion of a pop up version of the original California Cafe - the hugest breakfast in town! I am especially giddy with excited because I want to finally let you know that Little Winn Lane will be home to our very own Little Jane St shop! We are so very much looking forward to moving in and being part of this wonderful community!

Time for a shop update! I was so excited to visit the site today, SO MUCH has been done!! The floorboards are finished, the front has been pulled down ready for the new door, I have a little storage area under the stairs, and my new table has been delivered! Above is a shot from outside, looking in through where the front window display and door will be! I love this little table I found op shopping, it is the perfect size! Above the table we will have 5 pendulum lights... can't wait for these!

This morning has been spent at the shop... working out the finer details such as lighting, power, shelving, flooring and the front entrance - phew! All of this is a little out of my league to say the least, however we have made some final decisions and excitement has set in again as I watch this little space start to take shape.

How exciting, I just picked up a copy of Green Magazine with our little ceramic garden labels inside!! Green Magazine is a publication focusing on sustainable architecture and landscape design and is such a wonderful read, with a great article on old school style, presented on beautiful uncoated paper with stunning imagery plus lovely interesting products throughout!

Happy Monday! Hope you had a great weekend filled with many adventures. I spent my time on another road trip op-shopping adventure! I have a little secret to share, and I am just so excited that I am finally able to say it out loud... Because, seriously I want to scream about this news from the rooftops!

As of today, Little Jane St is about to embark on a new adventure… and we have decided to move into a SHOP! The space is amazing and we are pulling it together from scratch. Above are a few preliminary shots I have taken this morning. Next week walls will be going up and wooden floors will be put in place. We are hoping to move into this new little spot in about two months, so wish us luck with all the planning! Oh so excited!

The final countdown is on... there is only about three-ish months left until our little barn wedding and things are getting exciting! We have been busy op shopping and collecting like crazy for our party and on the weekend thought we would do a spot of suitcase rummaging in King George Square! Hello lovely blog friends, it has been far too long hasn't it!!

The last few months have been a bit of a whirlwind here in the LJS studio, made that little bit crazier by the fact that we have been overseas for the past month on a lovely little trip through Europe:) I am still patiently awaiting my 18 rolls of film to be developed and I can't wait to show you all of the fantastic places we managed to explore!

We had such an amazing time strolling unfamiliar streets, spending time with wonderful friends, eating amazing food, basking in the sunshine and finding a few vintage treats along the way!

While I have been away there has been lots happening, and I have a stack of news share over the next week so drop back in soon. Above are a few quick pics from our travel throughout Paris, Nice and Croatia.... ah bliss!

Oh what a fun weekend I did enjoy! I have been just busting at the seams to tell you all about it:) For some time now I have been wanting to learn all about ceramic mould making... so over the weekend we managed to get together a group of lovely creative ladies for a crafty morning! We also managed a sweet morning tea complete with slices of yummy cake, ice vovo's and a couple of pots of tea in the process! I had just so much fun and my head is now swimming with new product ideas that I cannot wait to share with you! Check out what we got up to....

It is days like today I LOVE... today I got to get out and about and visit some of my lovely local stockists! Nook is of course one of my faves! I don't think I have ever managed to stop in for a visit with Michelle without walking back out the door with my very own brown paper Nook bag:) I have been eyeing off the hook turn environmental silicone takeaway coffee cups for a while now, so took the opportunity to snatch one up, what an awesome idea! As you can see it is getting lots of use already and it is sure to help this slow sipping coffee drinker keep her coffee hot a wee bit longer! For a mere $12, it is a huge saving for our environment!!

In just over two months we are off to Europe.... Paris, Nice, London, Croatia, Greece and Portugal. I just CAN'T wait!! We are going to visit some very dear friends, and explore the world a little. What better excuse did I need to splurge on the wonderfully sweet Paris: Made by Hand book by Pia Jane Bijkerk? In the name of research of course:) I have been wanting to buy this book for some time and after accidentally stumbling upon it hidden in the bookshelves (after the shop assistant told me they had sold the last copy) I am so glad I did! Lots of things have now been added to the list of sights to see!
